ESTRO Announces Press Programme
for 2008 Annual Congress
The European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology to hold press conference with 4 major topics on Monday 15 September 2008.
More than 4,500 cancer specialists will gather in Göteborg this September for ESTRO's 27th annual congress. ESTRO 27 will be held between the 14th and 18th September 2008 at the Göteborg Convention Centre in Göteborg, Sweden.
The congress will include teaching sessions, lectures, presentations of major breakthroughs, posters and discussions in all areas of radiation oncology including physics, radiobiology, clinical radiotherapy and brachytherapy. Over 1,500 abstracts have been submitted - the most ESTRO has ever received.
The congress will also host the largest radiation oncology exhibition in Europe, with brand new equipment demonstrated on 10,000 m2 of floor space.

Opening press conference:
ESTRO’s President, Vincent Grégoire will introduce the main Congress sessions and describe the latest developments occurring in all aspects of Radiotherapy.
New clinical results in radio-oncology in 2008:
Data on new phase III trial (proof of concept) on various sites will be presented for the first time.
Swedish proton therapy project:
In 2011 Sweden will launch a new process for treating cancer, which is unique in Europe. The concept of ‘distributed competence’ involves eight Swedish university hospitals performing treatment plans close to the patients’ home, with the patients then treated in a single place, at the proton centre of the Skandion clinic.
Radiotherapy Information Centre:
ESTRO is launching a new radiotherapy information centre website providing patients and their carers, journalists and health professionals with up to date information and data on cancer and its treatment.
